Spordax - official club record has been verified

Wow!! Is all I can say. We had a fantastic century of people sign up to our latest event. The last few days rain made conditions a little testy but certainly didn't dampen any spirits. Our 40 ish gravellers set off first, coordinated by Ash who after imbibing last night marshalled his troops with his usual panache and flair. Remarkably they overcame all hazards and set a cracking pace to arrive at the cafe in good time. Martin T said his group made it back to the Devonshire for 1.30, they had brilliant ride and although the route had its challenges everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. The 80 miler was next off and after pleasantries were exchanged and photoshoot completed, Jack H led a particularly swift group off first. We didn't see them for dust and even managed to miss them at the cafe. The rest of us divided up into smaller groups and made our way round the undulating route (ok it was lumpy!!). There were several opportunities for sightseeing especially up on the tops on Staffordshire moors. We even spotted Jodrell Bank at one point. After I punctured just after the cafe a member of the public asked if they could observe a tyre being changed as they were new to cycling. Using a precision approach we demonstrated a perfect technique and the person stayed focused for the whole 25 minutes before we were on our way. Thanks everyone for helping. After dodging the weather for a while we did get caught in the rain but battled on regardless (thinking of everyone tucking into our chili gave us extra determination to finish). We arrived back at the Dev and it was great to see so many happy faces and people tucking into the lovely food and quaffing ales a plenty. The 60 mile ride was also a roaring success - they left the Triangle at 9.00 in 2 groups which were expertly led and managed by Rob H and Brian D. The speedy group which included Paul and Carl set a brisk pace and they arrived at the cafe in good time and enjoyed the fabulous selection of food which had been laid on. Some of the 80 and 60 mile riders luckily coincided at the cafe and it was great to share stories and have a little banter. Both Wetton Mill cafe and the Devonshire have done a sterling job today - a big thankyou to them (The cafe took on extra staff for us and the Dev managed to sort extra food when our numbers went a bit crazy in the last couple of days). Thanks to each and every rider for turning out and making our day so special. Special mention goes to everyone who helped organise our event from our wonderful club. Please feel free to add any details or comments about your experiences today. Any ideas for a Spring Spordax??
