Fred Whitton - Permanent Audax?

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

Hi all - just wondering if anyone fancies a crack at the Fred Whitton. Audax do permanent events which can be completed any time. The route is identical to the official event but without the masses. The plan is to ride it on the 20th August. We will drive up early morning (6.00am) and then start the ride about 10.00am from Grasmere. We are going to stay overnight at Grasmere YHA (£35) so we can celebrate with a lovely meal and a few cheeky beers. If anyone fancies it please let me know. Cheers Andy

Hi all - after taking on board really helpful advice we are going to travel up on Friday 19th August in the afternoon and stay over at Grasmere YH for an extra night. We will start at 8.00am on Saturday 20th August. There has been a lot of interest - I have paid a deposit for 6 places so please let me know ASAP if you are a definite. Total cost for 2 nights accommodation will be £67. Hope you can make it 😎🚲☕🍰

Great shout out Andy and it would of been a big yes from me, but unfortunately got work issues that weekend, but would be interested in a future date or year.

As mentioned it could be a huge day out, so towards the end is Ambleside, so you could even call by there with bikes for late beer & curry 😋

Done the main Fred event once and not sure if you are revering to the "Four Seasons" ? which i have done around 3 times.

One of them British grand days on a bike for sure.

Brilliant Dave - thanks very much forcthe info. It's looking like travelling up on the Friday evening is going to be the best option so we can get an early start. Will contact the YH to see what's possible 🚴👍
